Miranda Burrell is truly a weight loss success story. She is currently a certified trainer and a competitive kickboxing athlete and also a mother to 2 soon-to-be teenage boys.

Weight loss journey …
After ending her 13-year marriage, Miranda decided to tackle her physical health. She started walking more, going to the gym, yoga and began eating healthier. She made small gradual lifestyle changes so that it doesn’t overwhelm her and potentially backfire on her efforts.
Coincidentally, a member of CTV’s the Marilyn Dennis Show approached her to participate in “Mommy Weight Loss” healthy makeover program that was aired on the TV.
During that time, she worked with a personal trainer, a nutritionist, and a life coach. Through the program, she lost 30lbs. in 4 months! Not only did she lose her unhealthy weight, she gained her emotional and mental health.
Healthy nutrition, proper portion control and regular exercise are the most important things in healthy weight loss program.

New venture, new activity – kickboxing and loving it!
After accomplishing this she realized that her self-esteem and self-confidence rose. With the positive attitude and new found motivation, Miranda returned to school to pursue her university degree. In 2015, she graduated from from York University with an honours degree in Sociology.
While attending university, she also took up boxing and kickboxing. She instantly fell in love with the sport.

Two and half years ago, she began competing in kickboxing competitions. To date, she has earned 10 fights under her belt and lost 70 lbs in total.
She’s enjoying her new found self and wants to motivate others to do the same as what she has achieved.
Through her experiences in her journey battling weight loss, Miranda loves to inspire others to realize the potential they have in themselves through fitness.

Kate’s journey to becoming yoga teacher and certified personal trainer and into the world of powerlifting
Kate has always liked to help people empower themselves to their full potential.
As a child, like most young girls, Kate was shy, insecure of her body image. It was fitness training that helped her build her confidence and being comfortable in her own skin – and reach her full potential.
While studying Urban Planning at the University of Toronto in 2009, she was working at the Bicycle Station of the Cycling Infrastructure and Program Unit with the City of Toronto. Through the biking program, she wanted to create bicycle infrastructures to get the city’s population to lead healthier lifestyles – by cycling to work. Unfortunately change of political climate, the then Toronto mayor, Rob Ford, discontinued funding for the program.
Kate then became a certified yoga teacher in Ashtanga yoga and later certified personal trainer. Now she knows that she has control of her own destiny!
Note: Prior to yoga teacher training, Kate had practised yoga recreationally since 2001.
In 2014, she discovered that she’s hypermobile. That means she’s a naturally flexible person. So, just practising yoga potentially can cause injuries to her lower back.
Introducing more mobility to an already flexible joint will weaken the joint. Kate knew she had to introduce more stability to her joints – by strengthening the muscles that hold her joints together. She ventured into building strength through kettlebell training and eventually into powerlifting.
While learning about herself, strengths and weaknesses, she became fascinated with building strength that is functional ~ it’s strength that we can use in our activity of daily living (ADL). For example to carry a box, push the door open, turn your body around to reach over to pick up an object, maybe a hammer, swing a bat, etc.
